Glossary

Just wanted to post a list of terms that we expect the viewer to know when they watch our subs. Most of these are going to be honorifics, but I may add to them as needed.

Aniki, ani-ue, oniisan, an-chan, etc = big brother (ocassionally can just refer to a young but older man, and may not necessarily be related to the person)

Aneki, ane-ue, oneesan, etc = big sister (occassionally can just refer to a young, but older woman, and my not necessarily be related to that person)

Okaasan, haha-ue, haha = mother

Otousan, chichi-ue, chichi = father

Ojisan = uncle, can also be used to describe a middle-aged man (doesn't need to be related to you)

Obasan = aunty, can also be used to describe a middle-aged woman (doesn't need to be related to you)

Ojiisan = grandpa, can also be used to describe an old man (doesn't need to be related to you)

Obaasan = grandma, can also be used to describe an old woman (doesn't need to be related to you)

-san = a generic honorific, often translated as Mr., or Ms. It is generally used for someone you're not that close to, or when you're being polite.

-chan = an honorific used for someone you are close to, or for a child. This generally has a cuter sound to it, and is often used by girls

-sama = an honorofic used for those who are above you, such as royalty or the gods, or someone who you really adore.

-dono = an honorific generally used in historical dramas, it is very dated, and is often used by those in the samurai class

-kun = an honorific generally used on young boys, or a male you are really close to
